GREENSBORO, N.C. —  Looking to close out a six-match road swing on a winning note, Davidson came up short as UNCG took a 5-2 decision in Southern Conference men's tennis action on Saturday afternoon.

Davidson fell to 4-8 overall and 1-2 in league play, while UNCG ran its record to 6-7, with a 3-1 SoCon mark.

In doubles action, the pair of Robert Lightbourn and Kevin Moore netted their first win together with an 8-2 victory, but the 'Cats' No. 1 and 2 doubles teams where defeated 8-5 and 8-4 to give the Spartans a 1-0 lead.

Lightbourn and Connor Evins were the two 'Cats to earn team points in singles action. The sophomore Lightbourn ran his record at No. 5 singles to 5-4 after he picked up a third-set super tie-breaker win, 10-3. He split his first two sets with Cameron Smith, 7-5, 3-6, and the team match had been decided, resulting in the super tie-breaker being played.

Evins rattled off his fourth straight singles win, a personal-best for the second-year player. He dropped the first set, 6-2, but regrouped for a 6-4 triumph and like Lightbourn, played a super tie-breaker, winning 10-6. Evins is 5-2 on the season, scoring all five wins at No. 6 singles.

Davidson returns home and looks for its second league win when the Wildcats play The Citadel, tomorrow, March 18, at 1 p.m.
