DAVIDSON, N.C. – Clarion scored four pins in a 36-15 win over Davidson in non-conference wrestling action Saturday morning in Belk Arena.
Colby Pisani (141 pounds) and Anthony White (149) won by fall in back-to-back matches to give Clarion (3-0) a 12-7 lead. Sophomore Brent Mowry scored a five-point technical fall for Davidson (2-5) to tie the match at 12-12, but the 'Cats were only able to win one of the five remaining bouts.
The Wildcats got off to a strong start with wins in the 125- and 133-pound bouts. Sophomore Matt Zarth (125) scored four points in the final period to take a 4-1 decision over Trey Hicks and earn his 13th win of the season. Senior Alex Radsky (133) was dominant in his bout against Devin Cook, scoring five takedowns, recording a two-point near fall and recording the riding time point for a 13-4 major decision and team-leading 17th win.
Clarion turned the tide though at 141 pounds, as Pisani pinned senior Vitaly Radsky at the 5:30 mark despite trailing 1-4 in the match. White then earned a pin in 4:33 at 149 pounds.
Mowry (157) nearly pinned Kyle Braddock, scoring back points on four separate occasions before earning the technical fall at the 5:09 mark with an escape. Freshman Scott Patrick (174) earned the Wildcats' final victory with a 14-10 decision over Scott Joseph.
Bekzod Abdurakhmov (165) and Steven Cressley (184) won by fall for Clarion in 4:15 and 0:34, respectively. Davidson forfeited the 197 and heavyweight bouts for the final 36-15 margin.
Davidson will return to action Sunday at 7:30 p.m. when they host Southern Conference rival UNCG.
