FARMVILLE, Va. - Senior forward Kayli Maxwell scored the lone goal for the Davidson field hockey team, who fell 8-1 to the Stanford Cardinal in a neutral matchup Friday night at Longwood University.

It is the first loss of the season for the 'Cats, who fall to 2-1 on the young season and 0-1 in NorPac play. Stanford remains a perfect 5-0 overall and 2-0 in the league.

With Davidson trailing just 2-0, Maxwell dodged her defender and turned Cardinal goalie Madison Bell around for her first goal of the evening to put the 'Cats back into the game.

But the Cardinal added six unanswered goals, three by Rachel Mozenter, to take a commanding 7-1 lead. The Cardinal outshot the 'Cats 25-6 and held a 12-5 edge in penalty corners.

Davidson will conclude the weekend with Longwood University tomorrow at 3 p.m.
